Mathematical Distribution Functions for the Light Curves of Terrestrial Gamma Ray Flashes

The 4th Spring World Congress on Engineering and Technology (SCET 2015)——Terrestrial Gamma Ray Flashes (TGFs) are short intense bursts of gamma rays associated with lightning. In this talk, we propose four probability density functions for single-peaked short (less than 2 millisecond) and long TGFs. The maximum likelihood statistical evaluation of the goodness of fit for the time profile of many TGFs were calculated for each of the proposed function. Results of the maximum likelihood calculations indicate that the five probability densities fit the gamma ray pulse data equally well.
