Quasi-one dimensional structured SbCrSe3 compound: ultra-low thermal conductivity and their enhanced thermoelectric performance via Pb doping

第六届海内外中华青年材料科学技术研讨会(2015)——SbCrSe3 has a unique quasi-one-dimensional structure in which two parallel chains of CrSe6 octahedra are linked by antimony atoms to form the pseudo one dimensional crystal structure. Such quasi-one-dimensional structure may contribute to ultra-low thermal conductivity, a quality that is desirable for good thermoelectricity. In this report, we have achieved ultra-low thermal conductivity of 0.45 W/mK at 923 K, and simultaneously enhanced the power factors of SbCrSe3 by Pb doping. Consequently, the peakZT value of our best doped sample reaches 0.55 at 923 K, an enhancement by a factor of 55 compared to the parent SbCrSe3. The mechanisms for low thermal conductivity and enhanced electrical conductivity are discussed via Debye-Callaway model and band structure calculation. The results indicate that materials with low dimensional crystallinity possess high potential for thermoelectric applications.
